Some of you will have noticed a change around here. It was time for a new look, one that properly reflected the spirit of Go Wild. Quietly.
It was also time – past time – this chick got her scamp back on, with a return to weekly posts.
If you’re unsure what any of that means, check out this post, wherein I explain this blog’s reason for being, including its ancestral link to all things Fraggle 😉 .
With any luck, this blog will start to get a little more creative, now.
It’s like those tomatoes I was telling you about.
Fraggles, living under rocks as they do, aren’t known for their stellar gardening skills.
But when faced with green tomatoes, any self-respecting Fraggle would first consult the great oracle, Madame Trash Heap (otherwise known as Google) before letting them go to waste.
They’d add a bit of this or that:
400g green tomatoes
100g ripe tomatoes
1 pear
1 red capsicum
1 Spanish onion
100g brown sugar
100ml apple cider vinegar
50ml malt vinegar
1 clove garlic
1/2 red chilli
1/4 tsp peppercorns
1/2 tsp cummin seeds
1 tsp yellow mustard seeds
Throw it all together in a pot.
And after an hour or two have turned a raw, bitter fruit into a tidbit shared by the whole clan.
Short, sweet and with a hint of tang, just like this post 😉
So, without further ceremony, welcome to my new pad! Feel free to take a look around and enjoy the quiet.
While you’re at it, if there’s any feedback you’d like me to hear, let me know in the comments. Navigation issues? Aesthetic likes or dislikes? Topics you’d like to see more (or less) of? Hit me with it, I’m all ears this week.
Or, if you’re perfectly happy…
What’s cooking in your world today?
I love your blog’s new look! The colors are great. The chutney sound delicious. Reminds me of my hubby’s salsa. I remember Fraggle Rock. My kids used to watch it when they were little. I wonder if there are any channels that play reruns? That was a cute kids’ show. Madame Trash Heap, the great oracle! LOL!
That was a fun show, huh? I bought some of the DVDs a while back for my nephews when they visit. Turns out I enjoy it more than they do 🙂
Love it. It’s beautiful. And the chutney (and your cool pictures of it) looks amazing.
Thanks, Em. The chutney turned out alright, much to my surprise – beginners luck!
I like the new look! Sometimes a design overhaul is all we need to get us reignited for some blogging!
I see change is in the air? Liking your new aesthetic, too – though I’m not convinced you need any REigniting!
Love the new look! Go Wild, Girl!! 🙂
Aw, thanks Sumithra. You’re the original Wild 😉
The blog is looking pretty cool. I made my own chutney once , I’m impressed myself actually it came out great.
Yeah, it was my first attempt at chutney too! I have visions of doing it again. First, I better learn to grow tomatoes properly 🙂
The new look is beautiful. And the best part is this:
“It was also time – past time – this chick got her scamp back on, with a return to weekly posts.”
To which I say, Hooray!!
I know, what a slacker, right? 😉 But what has happened to Averil’s avatar? Is she in hiding, or is it just me? The little grey man somehow doesn’t do you justice… xo
It started out as a mistake because I was trying to update and somehow screwed it up. But now I’m sort of digging the incognito look. I feel so stealthy!
Hehe 🙂 Averil’s gone and got herself an invisibility cloak. Watch out…
The post looks great Alarna… how clever you are – and a good cook too! the transformation of green tomatoes looked yummy… must try XXX
It was gratifyingly yum, Valerie – and it’s all gone already! I’d like to try some of your cooking, though… You always make me hungry 😉 xo
I love this theme. Really beautiful. I change up my theme often, usually with the seasons. Green tomatoes are also good fried, a food popularized by the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. If you have never eaten the food or seen the movie, I highly recommend both!
I’d love to try Friend Green Tomatoes (yes, I’ve seen the movie – it’s even on my bookshelf!). But these tomatoes seemed too small to bother…maybe next season 🙂
Alarna your recipe looks delicious and your site has an amazing carm zen to it.
Thank you! I guess I’m always searching for zen, so I thought I could try to create some here 🙂
Love the new look of your blog Alarna! And this recipe sound amazing! Never attempted to do tomato chutney but it’s something I love. I always thought it was something difficult to do but you make it sound quite easy and yummy!
Thanks Rita! I always thought it was difficult, too, but it turned out to be pretty simple. It’s probably the time it takes to simmer, and the idea of the preserving process that’s actually off putting.
So bright and refreshing and happy – this new look! I love it, Alarna!
Happy! That’s what we want 🙂 And I see you’ve had a makeover, too?! Cheers to us 🙂
Cheers! Except that I have a diagnosable condition where I get bored very quickly and have to change things up all the time. Maybe it’s just ADD. 🙂
What’s cooking, a few DTMs, a little writing across different styles, and clans, a day of shadows and play. The raw and the cooked, looks good either way, Alarna, something is always good in finding different tastes.. Looks good!
Thanks, Sean! Shadow play sounds fun, but I’ve been wracking my brains trying to figure out what is a DTM? 🙂
Digital Terrain Model 🙂
That’s a yummy way to put green tomatoes to use Alarna!
Tis the season to write and re-boot girl. The site looks amazing. Love the layout and color. They say blue is the best color to use. People feel attracted to the color and it’s very soothing. Nice job! And I look forward to your upcoming posts. I’m in the same position. Just remodeled and am ready to blog once again. It’s been five month. Time to get back in the saddle again. Congrats to you! 🙂
Oh, so nice to see you Karen – thank you for your comments on the blog! I wasn’t aware about the colour blue, but I aim to soothe, so that makes me happy 🙂 Great news you have remodelled and are coming back to us! I’m looking forward to checking out your new site. Cheers to Springtime renewal 🙂 xox
I love the look! So much so that I was searching around for the theme you are using. 😉 What is it? I may just want to use it as inspiration. And, may I say, dear Alarna, that I am happily looking forward to reading weekly posts!! xo
Haha, I’m glad to see my disguise worked! It’s the Sixteen Nine theme – took me a while to settle on this one, but I’m pretty happy with it, and will probably change the theme pics from time to time. Since I can’t go on holidays… 😉 xo
whatever! the foods look delicious and colorful, Alarna. you always sell your skills short, am afraid. como estas tu, amiga… 🙂
You find me well 😉 How are you?
glad to hear that. oh, we don’t cook much these day. too hot. we eat out often, hehe. and speaking of cooking, it’s people that are being burnt and toasted by the tropical heat here, hohoho. am not complaining about the weather too much, mind… 😉
